What types of items can I donate?

We accept cars, trucks, vans, boats, R/V's and heavy equipment and motorcycles.

What if my item does not work or run?

No problem. We only ask that the vehicle or unit is towable. Please advise us of any special circumstances that would make picking up your vehicle or unit challenging. Generally we do not accept vehicles or units that have been stripped, burned or flooded. Please advise us if your vehicle has been issued a "Rebuilt Salvage" title.

How do I donate?

Easy, just fill out our online donation form and a representative will contact you. Call us toll free at 866.398.5995 for immediate assistance. All that is needed is some basic information about the unit and the title and we will be ready to go.

What if my title is lost or in someone else's name?

No problem, our title clerks have years of experience in helping you obtain a proper title. Charitable Auto Recycling also works very closely with the Texas Department of Transportation and our local county office, so we know the proper forms and processes to obtain a lawful title in your name. Please have the vehicle identification number ready when you call so we research your title and get the process started. This number can be found on the left hand side of your vehicle dash below your registration and inspections stickers.

Can I get a tax deduction for my donation?

Absolutely, all of our charities are 501 (c) (3) organizations and they all meet the criteria to make your item work for you through your taxes. Consult your tax advisor, not all taxpayers are eligible. It is necessary to itemize your deductions to see the value on your tax return.

How much can I deduct from my taxes for my vehicle donation?

You tax deduction amount is dependent on what the item sells for. If your donation sells for less than $500.00, you are still eligible for a tax deduction of $499.00. The sales price or $500.00 whichever is greater.

What types of buyers come to your auction?

All kinds, we support the local community by providing good running vehicles to anyone who wants to buy. We also have a large attendance of dealers, exporters and parts dealers. Our wholesale customers have come to count on us as reliable source of used vehicles. Our individual buyers know they are getting a great deal. Our preview gives all buyers the opportunity to view the units and make informed decisions.

How long will it take to pick up my vehicle?

Generally vehicles are picked up within 48 hours. A CAR representative will contact the donor within the first 48 hours to set up a time that is good for you. If your donation is in danger of being towed or needs to be moved sooner, no problem just call us to donate and we will get the process moving. Same day professional service is available, but not guaranteed.

Who will pick up my vehicle?

We will send a professionally licensed, bonded and insured tow service to the location of the vehicle. We have our own tow trucks and employees, but use an outside contractor as well. When the driver calls he will introduce himself, as well as, bring a receipt when he arrives.

Where do you pick up cars?

Charitable Auto Recycling picks up vehicles in Texas. We are an Austin, Texas based company and strive to support our community. We work however with several vehicle donation processing centers that pick up donations nationwide. If your vehicle is not in Texas we will put you in contact with the largest and best nationwide processing centers, which represent thousands of charities.

When will the title be transferred from my name?

All title transfers take place immediately. Your vehicle title will be transferred when the tow truck driver arrives and he will bring you all proper paperwork so that you can let the Texas Department of Transportation know you have donated your vehicle. Charitable Auto Recycling releases your liability and accepts responsibility for your vehicle once it is picked up.

What will happen to my donation?

All donations will be sold to the highest bidder at public auction. If your donation is a classic or has special significance or extremely high value, we will put it under reserve or find that special buyer through our contacts or over the web.

What will I have to pay?

Nothing, we pick up everything at no charge to you. The only occasion which would warrant any payment would be if you did not properly transfer the title when you made your purchase. If the title is not in your name and you forgot to finalize your purchase at the state, you will have to pay a title only fee of $33.00 and pay your sales tax on your purchase. We can advise you on how to obtain your proper title.
